JSMO Participates in ISO Annual Meeting in Kigali

Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) -- The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) took part in the 2025 Annual Meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), held from October 6–10 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The global event, themed "Together for Impact," convened leaders and experts from national standards bodies worldwide to discuss international standardization, sustainability, and the role of standards in addressing global challenges.

According to a statement issued by JSMO on Monday, the organization was represented by its Director General, Eng. Abeer Al-Zuheir, who joined representatives from around the world in deliberations aimed at advancing international cooperation in standardization and promoting sustainable development goals.

The meeting opened with the General Assembly of the Committee on Developing Countries (DEVCO), which reviewed the 2026–2030 Action Plan focused on strengthening the participation of developing nations in shaping international standards, in line with the ISO 2030 Strategy. This was followed by a directors-general forum for national standards institutions to discuss emerging trends, future expectations, and sector-wide challenges.

Throughout the five-day event, delegates engaged in a series of high-level panel discussions covering key topics such as trade, sustainable development, digital transformation, and innovation. Specialized sessions addressed issues including responsible artificial intelligence, digital leadership, clean energy, biodiversity, and women’s empowerment in standardization. The agenda also highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity, and the need to reinforce global confidence in international standards while positioning standardization as a central element of public policy.

JSMO also participated in the ISO General Assembly, as well as the ISO Council and Technical Board elections for the 2026–2028 term. The organization’s involvement, the statement noted, contributes to strengthening Arab representation in international standardization forums and ensures Jordan remains aligned with global developments in quality infrastructure, innovation, and sustainability.

On the sidelines of the event, representatives from international, regional, Arab, and Islamic organizations held bilateral meetings to explore new areas of collaboration in standardization and quality infrastructure, aiming to enhance coordination and achieve mutual interests.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, includes 169 member countries and operates through more than 820 technical and subcommittees. ISO brings together experts from across the globe to exchange knowledge and develop consensus-based, market-relevant international standards that support innovation and offer solutions to shared global challenges.
